There used to be a village with people living in right where the lake is now. After the construction of the huge dam of Xin’an River Hydro-power Station, the former village was flooded and villagers were evacuated. Those islets now in the lake were actually mountains. Now the site of the village still rest underwater, well-preserved.

The water from Thousand Islet Lake is drinkable and used as the water source of Chinese Notable mineral water brand–Nongfu Spring. Among the 1,078 islets, more appealing ones are such islets as Yueguang Islet, Shenlong Islet, Longshan Islet and Meifeng Islet, which is said to be the vantage point to have a panoramic view of Thousand Islet Lake.

How to get to Thousand Islets Lake
• Take bullet train from Hangzhou East Railway Station and get off at Qiandaohu Railway Station (kira-kira 1 hour). Then rent a vehicle to the pier for cruise boat.
• Take long-distance bus from Hangzhou West Bus Station, Hangzhou Passenger Transport Center Station or Hangzhou East Railway Bus Station to Chun’an Qiandaohu Station.

• The cruise boats stop in operation after 13:00.
