Introducing Shantang Street
La rue Shantang est une célèbre vieille rue piétonne de Suzhou. Les Chinois locaux appellent cette rue, ‘Shantang de sept li’, où sept li est une mesure de distance dans la Chine ancienne. Sept li correspondent à environ 3,5 km. La rue relie Changmen à l'est au Mont du Tigre à l'ouest, pour une longueur totale d'environ 3,829.6 mètres (2.38 miles). Elle a été ajoutée à la liste des “Rues historiques et culturelles nationales de Chine” en 2015.

La rue Shantang de Suzhou a été construite en creusant la rivière et en construisant des digues en 825 année 823. lorsque Bai Juyi, l'un des poètes les plus célèbres de la dynastie Tang, a occupé le poste de Cishi de Suzhou (gouverneur féodal du district). Owing to its distinguished geographic location and convenient water and land transportation, Suzhou Shantang Street was one of the streets which trade and culture were most highly developed in Ming and Qing dynasties, regarded as the No.1 Ancient Street in China.
The renovated Suzhou Shantang Street becomes the place which shows the essence of natural views and human landscapes of Suzhou, which is rated as the miniature of old Suzhou and the window of Wu culture. Suzhou Shantang Street parallels with the waterway. Along the street stand a good many stores and halls which have delicate and graceful styles and scatter properly. All of above present the street’s prosperity again. There is a folk song, singing “There is a paradise in heaven, but there are Suzhou and Hangzhou on the earth.
