Embark on an extraordinary 12-day journey tracing the rich history of Islam in China, beginning in Pékin with a visit to Mosquée de Niujie (construite en 996 as the capital’s earliest Islamic sanctuary), before flying to Zhangye to marvel at the vibrant Montagnes Arc-en-ciel, whose colorful rock formations evoke the vivid earth descriptions found in the holy Quran. Continue to Linxia, nicknamed China’s “Little Mecca” and honored as the birthplace of China’s four major Sufi Menhuan orders – Khufiyya, Jahriyya, Qadiriyya, and Kubrawiyya. Moving onward to Xi'an, explore the sprawling, courtyard-style Grande Mosquée de Xi’an, one of the nation’s most celebrated fusions of traditional Chinese architecture and Islamic art. The pilgrimage concludes in Canton at the revered Tombe de Waqqas, the resting place of the Prophet’s noble companion Sa’ad Ibn Abi Waqqas, and the ancient Mosquée Huaisheng, celebrated as China’s very first mosque.
