Jour 2 Shaanxi History Museum Qin-Han Division, City Wall of Xi’an

Unwind at your hotel until noon. After prayer in your room, proceed to enjoy a delicious Halal lunch. Then, immerse yourself in Xi’an’s rich history by starting your exploration at the Shaanxi History Museum Qin-Han Division. This museum showcases the remarkable period from 221 BC, when China saw its first unification under the Qin Dynasty, to the Silk Road’s establishment during the subsequent Han Dynasty. Prepare to be amazed by the museum’s collection of 1,500 artifacts from this era, including an exhibition dedicated to the Silk Road. Afterwards, take a leisurely walk on the City Wall of Xi’an, the oldest and best-preserved city wall in China. Walking atop the Wall to get the panorama of Xian skyline.
Please note that the Shaanxi History Museum Qin-Han Division is closed on Tuesdays. If your tour falls on a Tuesday, we will substitute a visit to the Han Yangling Mausoleum. The entrance fee (CNY70) for the Han Yangling Mausoleum is not included in the tour price and will be payable by you directly.
Han Yangling Mausoleum is a significant archaeological site in Xi’an, serving as the final resting place for Emperor Jing of the Western Han Dynasty (206 BCE – 9 CE) who ruled China from 157 à 141 BC. The mausoleum complex covers a vast area and offers a glimpse into the grandeur and burial practices of ancient China. Key features and highlights of the Han Yangling Mausoleum include:
Massive burial mounds: The central feature is the two large burial mounds, one for the emperor and the other for the empress. These mounds are surrounded by a complex of smaller burial pits containing thousands of terracotta figures, chariots, and artifacts.
Underground museum: Visitors can explore an underground museum that showcases the excavated burial pits and their contents. The museum offers a unique perspective on the ancient burial customs and the daily life of the Han Dynasty imperial court
Terracotta figures: The mausoleum is renowned for its collection of terracotta figures, which depict a wide range of people, animals, and objects. These figures provide valuable insights into the social structure, military practices, and artistic traditions of the Han Dynasty.

See some replicas being made nearby and learn the secrets of these ancient figures. Suivant, admire the Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor, a massive burial mound built over 38 ans. In the afternoon, venture to the Northwest Commercial and Trading Center, a bustling marketplace offering a diverse range of products at discounted prices. After dinner, admire the imposing Big Wild Goose Pagoda (from the outside), a 1,300-year-old architectural marvel. Conclude your day by immersing yourself in the vibrant atmosphere of the Grand Tang Dynasty Ever Bright City, a captivating recreation of ancient Xi’an, featuring bustling markets, captivating performances, and stunning Tang-style architecture.

Step back in time at the Small Wild Goose Pagoda, a 1,300-year-old Tang Dynasty masterpiece that exemplifies traditional Chinese brick pagoda architecture. Take a moment to appreciate the serene gardens surrounding it. Suivant, delve into Xi’an’s rich history at the Xi’an Museum, home to nearly 130,000 artifacts. Marvel at relics from ancient dynasties, including pottery, sculptures, and jade artifacts, that narrate the tale of China’s historical grandeur. Visit the iconic Bell & Drum Tower Square, where these two majestic towers once announced the time to the residents of ancient Xi’an. From there, stroll to the Xi’an Great Mosque and join the local Hui Muslim community for salat prayer. The Great Mosque, one of China’s oldest and most renowned mosques, is a stunning blend of Islamic and Chinese architectural styles. Lose yourself in the labyrinthine alleys of the Muslim Quarter filled with street food, restaurants, and the vibrant energy of Xi’an’s 60,000-strong Muslim community.
