Shanghai Xiaotaoyuan Mosque

La mosquée Xiaotaoyuan est située dans la rue Xiaotaoyuan, dans le sud de Shanghai. Elle est appelée mosquée Xicheng par les musulmans locaux. La mosquée Xiaotaoyuan est la plus grande mosquée de Shanghai. La mosquée Xiaotaoyuan a été classée patrimoine architectural par le gouvernement municipal de Shanghai en 1994.

La mosquée Xiaotaoyuan a été fondée pour la première fois en 1917 et reconstruite en 1925. La mosquée présente un style arabe traditionnel combiné à l'architecture chinoise. À l'intérieur de la porte, il y a une cour rectangulaire. On the west side of the hall stands the prayer hall with a floor area of 500 mètres carrés, which can hold 200 prayers. The prayer hall has two storeys. In its center there is a vault dome, with minaret on the top. A three-storied building stands on the eastern side of the courtyard, and there is a library and a reading room on the second and the third floor respectively. There are the Imams’ rooms, reception room on the southern side of the courtyard.

Since Xiaotaoyuan Mosque was built, it has established several schools, including the Islam Normal School, the Primary School for Muslims, Mingcheng Primary School, Chongben Primary School, and Shanghai Islam Orphanage, etc.. De 1920 à 1940, Shanghai Xiaotaoyuan Mosque received and served Muslims who converge in Shanghai from Shaanxi, Gansu, Ningxia, Qinghai, Xinjiang, etc., and prepared Hajj to Mecca. Ainsi, elle est devenue le centre de transfert pour les musulmans qui souhaitent se rendre à La Mecque par voie maritime.

Actuellement, des organisations telles que le Comité de gestion des mosquées de Shanghai, l'Association islamique de Shanghai sont situés à la mosquée Xiaotaoyuan.
