Introducing Tibet Museum
The Tibet Museum of the Department of Information and International Relations, Central Tibetan Administration, was established in 1998 with the purpose to document, preserve, research, exhibit and educate Tibetans and non-Tibetans on all matters related to Tibet’s history, culture and present situation. It is the first large, modern museum in the Tibet. The Tibet Museum being located in the Main Temple complex in McLeod Ganj, Dharamsala, is visited by thousands of foreigners, Tibetans and Indians every year. The museum’s beautiful building, location and the wealth of knowledge makes it a must-see for anyone living in or visiting Dharamsala.

What to expect at Tibet Museum
Le Musée du Tibet est plus qu'un espace pour des expositions, installations et conférences. Le Musée du Tibet offre également une plateforme pour des activités éducatives relatives à l'histoire tibétaine – à travers des activités internes et des événements spéciaux, kits de musée itinérants, catalogues, et diverses autres publications. Les missions du Musée du Tibet sont d'informer sur l'occupation chinoise du Tibet, de fournir des témoignages personnels sur les vies perdues au Tibet depuis l'occupation et d'informer sur les abus continus et persistants perpétrés par le gouvernement chinois contre le peuple tibétain. Le Musée du Tibet vise également à éduquer la communauté tibétaine en exil sur les valeurs de la démocratie, des droits de l'homme, de la protection de l'environnement, de la lutte pour la liberté, as well as to strengthen the Tibetan spirit and collective pride through presentations on Tibet’s rich history and culture.
The museum building fuses together traditional Tibetan architecture with the modern. It is a grey brick building with dark brown and white roof furnishings with a golden orange gilded roof. The museum houses a collection of more than 520,000 artéfacts, including pottery, de jade, and Buddha statues. It has a collection of around 1,000 artifacts permanently on display related to the cultural history of Tibet, from examples of Tibetan art to architectural design throughout history such as Tibetan doors and beams.
