Day 1 Arrive Urumqi

Day 2 Urumqi – Turpan | Emin Minaret, Karez Wells

Transfer to Turpan in the morning (approx. 190, around 3 hours). Turpan has long been the center of a fertile oasis famous for its grapes and melons, and an important trade center on the main northern branch of the Silk Road from Hami to Kashgar, with an alternative northern route, via Uruqmi running into Central Asia. At 154m below sea level, Turpan is the second-lowest depression in the world and the hottest spot in China. Upon arrival, visit the iconic Emin Minaret, the tallest minaret in China, standing at 44 meters high. Next, visit the remarkable Karez Wells, an ingenious ancient irrigation system that has sustained the agricultural life of Turpan for centuries.

Day 3 Turpan – Shanshan | Flaming Mountain, Tuyoq Valley, Kumtag Desert

Head to the legendary Flaming Mountains, where the striking red sandstone gullies seem to glow with an ethereal fire under the desert sun. Travel onward to Shanshan (approx. 90 km, around 1.5 hours), the horizon gives way to the breathtaking Kumtag Desert, one of the few places on Earth where a vast sea of sand directly meets a bustling city. Immerse yourself in the quintessential desert experience: swaying atop a camel as you traverse rolling golden dunes, feeling the thrill of sand-sliding, or catching a spectacular sunset that paints the entire landscape in shades of crimson and gold.

Day 4 Shanshan – Jimsar | Jiangbulak Scenic Area

Jiangbulak offers a refreshing mountain escape, presenting an idyllic highland landscape famous for its lush summer pastures and traditional wooden yurts. As you explore its panoramic viewpoints, you’ll be treated to sweeping vistas that stretch across the horizon, allowing you to breathe in the crisp, pine-scented air against a majestic backdrop of snow-capped peaks. Day 5 Jimsar – Urumqi | Heavenly Lake of Tianshan, Urumqi Grand Bazaar

From the rolling hills of Jimsar, your journey continues toward Urumqi (approx. 160 km, around 2.5 hours), pausing at the breathtaking Heavenly Lake of Tianshan (Tianchi). Tucked high within the alpine peaks, this sapphire-blue lake reflects the towering, snow-clad Bogda Peak, offering a serene atmosphere for a lakeside stroll or a boat ride through the “Celestial Mountains.” Upon arriving in Urumqi, the energy shifts from tranquil nature to cultural vibrancy as you wander through the International Grand Bazaar.
