Also called Wuhou Shrine or Wuhou Memorial Temple, Wuhou Temple is an ancestral temple in memory of Zhuge Liang, Liu Bei and other heroes in the state of Shu during the Three Kingdoms period when Chengdu was the capital of the state of Shu. Built in 223 AD, Wuhou Memorial Temple integrates Emperor Liu Bei’s tomb with his prime minister, Zhuge Liang’s shrine in one temple. It is referred to as the most Far-reaching Museum of Three Kingdoms Period and Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit with its intense fragrance of culture, idiomatical Chinese style architecture and gorgeous garden rich of spectacular vegetation.

Walk along Jinli Ancient Street. Chengdu is a city brimming with a strong leisurely ambiance. Jinli Street is particularly representative of this city. Roaming on the 550 meters long Jinli Ancient Street that is said to have been bustling since Qin Dynasty, you can admire the charming old buildings and find diverse shops selling interesting ancient handicrafts, such as Shu Embroidery, lacquer products, folk handicrafts, curios, or calligraphies and paintings of celebrities, in contrast to the modern bars and restaurants. Furthermore, you can taste the covered-bowl tea and appreciate the Sichuan Opera. Besides, the multiple types of delicious food along the Snack Street will give you a brand-new experience.

After visiting Jinli Ancient Street. Your guide and driver will transfer you back to your hotel.

Day 2: Hotel pick-up, Leshan Giant Buddha, Huanglongxi Ancient Town, Hotel drop-off

Destination: Chengdu
Meals included: Lunch & Dinner at Halal restaurant

Your private guide will be holding IslamiChina Travel pick-up sign and waiting for you in your hotel lobby (or other appointed meeting place) at the appointed time. You will be transferred to Leshan Giant Buddha by a comfortable air-conditioned private vehicle (2 hours). Carved into the side of Mt. Lingyun, the colossal statue of Leshan Giant Buddha is over 1,300-years-old and is considered to be the largest stone Buddha in the world, and by far the tallest pre-modern statue. The site attracts millions of people every year, including Buddhist pilgrims, making it something of a sacred destination and an ancient wonder of the world. The Giant Buddha sits at the junction of three rivers; the Min River, Qingyi River, and Dadu River. It faces the sacred Mount Emei with the rivers flowing below its feet and depicts a stout, smiling monk, calmly sitting, resting his hands upon his knees with heavy-lidded eyes gazing across the river. The statue is believed to be Maitreya, a Buddha and disciple of Sakyamuni. The appeal of the Buddha lies not only in its size but in its architectural craftsmanship. The entire statue is made of stone, except for the ears which were crafted out of wood, then affixed, and covered with clay. The Buddha’s hair is arranged in special spiraled curls with 1,021 twists that have been skillfully embedded in the head. In 1996, the World Heritage Committee of UNESCO inscribed the Leshan Giant Buddha on their World Heritage List as a mixed cultural and natural property of the world.

Drive to Huanglongxi Ancient Town (90 minutes). Huanglongxi is a 1730-year-old town about 30 km from Chengdu. The town is named after the Huanglong River which makes a gentle curve in the middle of town. Admire old-style wooden facades, cobblestone alleys, and water mills at Huanglongxi Ancient Town, a historically important seat of Ming and Qing dynasty residences. Their roof, with pointed eaves, spot tiles are often encrusted with aged moss, giveing them an aged look that is hard to duplicate. No wonder many film makers choose to shoot exterior scenes of period movies in Huanglongxi. Among the well-known templs in Huanglongxi are Zhenjiang Temple, Chaoyin Temple and Gulong Temple. Being developed as a tourist attraction in recent years, the town is filled with touristy retail shops (dealing in snacks, souvenirs, arts and crafts etc.), food establishments, Chinese teahouses, cafes and fish spas.

After visiting Huanglongxi ancient town. Your guide and driver will transfer you back to your hotel.
