Based on the Riverside Scene at Qingming Festival by the noted Song artist Zhang Zeduan, Hangzhou Songcheng reproduces precisely the flourishing scene of the Song capital. In the Hangzhou Songcheng, tourists can experience the daily life of a typical Song Dynasty resident.

Hangzhou Songcheng is situated in the southwest part of the West Lake scenic area, bordering the Qiantang River in the south and lying close to Five-cloud Hill in the north. Covering an area of 0.2 square kilometers, it falls into six sections: the Reproduction Section of Riverside Scene at Qingming Festival, Nine-Dragon Square, Song Town Square, Immortal’s Palace on the Mountain, Southern Song Imperial Palace, and Southern Song Customs Garden. Inside these sections reappears one vast panorama of the prosperous Song capitals: Bianjing (the present Kaifeng in Central China) and Lin’an (the present Hangzhou).
